Lab invoicing and GST exemption
LAB-INV series with automatic exempt/taxable splits and home collection fees.
Step by Step
- Bill tests from the counter (shared cart with medicines is fine).
- Invoices generate under the LAB-INV- series automatically.
- Clinical tests show as exempt; commercial tests carry 18%.
- Home collection fees are supported as configurable service charges.
How Lab Bills Are Taxed
- Clinical tests (for diagnosis) — exempt healthcare services, no GST.
- Wellness or commercial tests — may be taxable at 18%; decide with your CA.
- Mixed bills — exempt and taxable tests appear as separate lines with the correct tax on each.
Why a Separate Lab Series
Lab invoices use their own number series, which keeps the GSTR-1 document summary clean and makes lab revenue easy to see. Exempt lab income goes into the exempt part of GSTR-1, not into taxable sales.
FAQ
- Can I claim ITC on reagents? Not the part used for exempt tests. Many diagnostic kits and reagents are now taxed at 5%.
