Returning stock to supplier
Supplier returns are first-class documents with credit tracking.
Step by Step
- Go to Purchases → Supplier Returns → New.
- Select the original GRN line and the batch/quantity to return.
- The system computes the credit including tax reversal.
- The stock ledger and ITC register adjust automatically.
Before You Return
- Check the distributor’s return policy — most accept near-expiry returns only within a set window before expiry.
- Keep the original purchase invoice details handy; returns are linked to the GRN line.
- Pack returns batch-wise with a printed return note.
What Happens in the System
Stock reduces from the exact batch, and the GST on the returned goods is reversed in your ITC register. When the distributor sends a credit note, match it against the return so their account is settled correctly.
FAQ
- Can I return part of a batch? Yes. Enter the quantity you are sending back.
- What about expired stock the distributor will not take? Write it off as a stock adjustment with the reason "expired".
