Using the barcode scanner for billing
Any USB or Bluetooth keyboard-wedge scanner works plug-and-play. No configuration needed.
Step by Step
- Plug in the scanner — Windows detects it as a keyboard.
- In the billing screen, simply scan; the background buffer detects scanner input.
- The matching item auto-adds with its FEFO batch.
- Tip: print your own barcodes from Masters → Items for local repackaged stock.
Choosing a Scanner
- Any USB or Bluetooth scanner that works like a keyboard ("keyboard wedge") is supported — no drivers needed.
- A 2D scanner also reads the QR codes that the top 300 drug brands must carry (Schedule H2).
- A stand-mounted scanner lets the cashier scan without picking it up.
If a Scan Does Not Add the Item
- Open Notepad and scan: if no text appears, check the cable or Bluetooth pairing.
- If text appears but the item is not found, the barcode is not yet saved on that item — add it once.
- If wrong characters appear, set the scanner’s keyboard language to US English.
FAQ
- Do I need to click in the search box before scanning? No. The billing screen detects scanner input anywhere on the page.
- Can I bill items without a printed barcode? Yes. Search by name, or print your own barcode labels for loose and unbarcoded stock.
